Community Guidelines

BHED is a learning community, not a competition — even though we have leaderboards. Our community features exist to make learning more motivating and social, not to rank or judge people.

We are a platform where:

• Everyone is here to learn — curiosity is always welcome
• All skill levels and backgrounds are respected
• Black history belongs to everyone — we welcome learners of all races, ages, and backgrounds
• Honest mistakes in knowledge are part of learning
• Historical context matters — we try to discuss history with nuance and care

• Participate in leaderboards and streaks in the spirit of personal growth
• Share historical moments and quiz highlights to spread awareness
• Use BHED in schools, community programs, and family settings
• Set a respectful public display name that represents you positively
• Report bugs, content errors, or concerns to our team
• Ask questions — curiosity is how we all learn

• Display names that are offensive, hateful, sexually explicit, or impersonating real people
• Using shared content or social sharing to harass, mock, or demean others
• Attempting to game leaderboards, streaks, or quiz scores artificially
• Sharing content outside BHED in ways that misrepresent it or take it out of context to cause harm
• Using BHED to spread historical misinformation or denial of documented events
• Targeting or harassing other users based on their public activity
• Creating multiple accounts to manipulate rankings or avoid suspensions

BHED lets you set a custom display name for the leaderboard and community features. Your display name:

• Must not impersonate a real person (living or historical)
• Must not contain slurs, profanity, or offensive language
• Must not be used to advertise, spam, or promote external products
• Should not reveal identifying information about yourself or others (e.g., phone numbers, addresses)

If you don't set a name, BHED auto-generates an anonymous alias for you. You can change your display name at any time from Privacy settings.

BHED encourages sharing its educational content to spread awareness of Black history. When sharing:

• Credit BHED when sharing platform content
• Do not take quotes or historical facts out of context to support a harmful narrative
• Do not combine BHED content with hate speech or other harmful messaging
• Do not claim credit for BHED editorial content as your own

Educational institutions may use BHED content in curricula with attribution. For commercial or large-scale use, contact content@bhed.app

BHED enforces these guidelines through a combination of automated tools and human review:

Possible actions include:

• Warning — for minor, first-time violations
• Display name reset — for names that violate guidelines
• Feature restriction — removal from leaderboard or community features
• Account suspension — temporary, pending review
• Permanent termination — for serious or repeated violations

We aim to be consistent and proportionate. If you believe an action was taken in error, contact moderation@bhed.app

We review all reports and take them seriously. Reports are confidential — the person you report will not know you filed it.

BHED is designed to be classroom-safe and educationally appropriate. For institutional use:

• These Community Guidelines apply equally in educational contexts
• Teachers and administrators are responsible for supervising student use
• Student accounts follow all standard privacy protections
• Community features (leaderboard, sharing) require individual student opt-in
• Contact schools@bhed.app for institutional agreements or special arrangements
