Terms of Service

By creating a BHED account or using any part of the platform — including as a guest — you agree to these Terms of Service. If you are under 18, you represent that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agrees to these terms on your behalf.

If you are using BHED on behalf of a school, organization, or institution, you agree to these terms on behalf of that entity.

BHED (Black History Every Day) is an educational platform providing:

• Daily historical events, figures, and moments in Black history
• Interactive quizzes to test and build knowledge
• Curated learning tracks for structured education
• Ranked lists celebrating historical contributors
• Community features including streaks, leaderboards, and sharing

BHED is designed for educational purposes. While we strive for historical accuracy, we encourage users to verify information and explore multiple sources.

BHED is open to all ages as a public educational resource. Account creation and community features have additional requirements:

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account (or have parental consent)
• You must provide accurate registration information
• One person, one account — shared or duplicate accounts are not permitted
• Schools and organizations may use BHED for classroom purposes under these terms

BHED does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, or any other protected characteristic. The platform is built for everyone who wants to learn.

BHED exists to educate and inspire. To keep it that way, you agree to use the platform in good faith:

You may:

• Use BHED content for personal learning and education
• Share individual entries, quiz results, and list highlights on social media
• Use BHED in educational settings, classrooms, and institutional programs
• Provide feedback, suggest corrections, or report concerns

You may not:

• Reproduce, republish, or commercially distribute BHED content without written permission
• Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to extract content or data at scale
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to administrative systems or other user accounts
• Manipulate quiz scores, streak counts, or leaderboard rankings artificially
• Use BHED to harass, impersonate, or harm other users
• Submit false or misleading information during registration or feedback
• Attempt to circumvent content restrictions, rate limits, or security measures

BHED's community features — leaderboards, sharing, public profiles — are spaces for respectful engagement. By participating, you agree to:

• Treat other users with dignity and respect
• Not use display names or aliases that are offensive, misleading, or impersonating
• Not share content that is hateful, violent, sexually explicit, or harmful
• Not use community features to harass, bully, or target specific individuals

BHED content:

• All editorial content, quizzes, lists, and platform design are owned by BHED or licensed to us
• You may share individual pieces of content on social media with credit to BHED
• You may not republish or commercialize BHED content without written permission
• Historical facts themselves are not copyrightable; our editorial framing and presentation are

Your content:

• Display names and public aliases you create remain yours
• By setting a public display name, you grant BHED permission to display it on leaderboards and community features
• We do not claim ownership of your quiz results or personal learning data

BHED reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that:

• Violate these Terms of Service
• Attempt to manipulate platform systems (e.g., fake streaks, score tampering)
• Engage in harassment of other users or BHED staff
• Spread harmful, hateful, or false content
• Attempt unauthorized access to platform systems
• Are used by bots, scrapers, or automated systems without permission

We will make a good-faith effort to notify you of a suspension and the reason, except when immediate action is required for safety or legal reasons.

BHED is a moderated educational platform. We reserve the right to:

• Remove, edit, or restrict any user-generated content that violates these terms
• Update, add, or retire platform features at any time
• Adjust quiz content, historical records, and list rankings as research warrants
• Apply rate limits and access controls to protect platform integrity
• Restrict access to users who abuse the platform in bad faith

We try to be consistent and transparent in moderation. If you see something that concerns you, report it at moderation@bhed.app

BHED offers optional premium features (Learning Tracks) through paid subscriptions:

• Subscriptions are billed through Stripe and are subject to Stripe's terms
• Monthly and annual plans are available — see the app for current pricing
• Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled before the renewal date
• Cancelling a subscription grants access through the end of the paid period
• Refunds are handled case-by-case — contact support@bhed.app within 7 days of a charge

Free features (daily entries, daily quiz, lists) will always remain free.

BHED is provided "as is" for educational purposes. While we work hard to keep the platform accurate and available:

• We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the platform
• Historical content is researched but may contain errors — please cross-reference important claims
• We are not liable for decisions made based on content consumed on BHED
• We are not liable for data loss beyond what is caused by our own negligence

To the fullest extent permitted by law, BHED's liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months preceding any claim.

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we do:

• We will update the "Last updated" date
• Material changes will be communicated to registered users via email
• Continued use of BHED after changes constitutes acceptance

If you disagree with an update, you may stop using BHED and delete your account.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. We are committed to resolving issues fairly.
